:: about the story ::

Ever since I started posting my fanfic in 2002, 99% of the time it has been my habit to put my stories online as soon as I've finished the first chapter. This has often resulted in long breaks from writing, and in some cases abandoned stories, which tends to result in disappointed readers and a shitload of guilt for yours truly. I didn't want that to happen with this story, and so my original intent with it was to keep it entirely offline, all save for random snippets here and there, until it was fully complete.

That intent changed at the end of April 2013, after I'd successfully completed my fourth attempt at Camp NaNoWriMo. As my personal celebration of my win, I chose to begin posting the story I'd used as my project for the challenge much earlier than intended. Lanterns is that story, taking its title from the Birds Of Tokyo song of the same name. It was named as the May 2013 story spotlight at PlaceToHide.net.

In May 2021, after eight years of writing, it became my first completed story in nearly nine years, and the first completed story in The Sound Of Light.

Summary: Ruby and Taylor come from very different worlds. It takes a chance encounter on the first day of college, and the ensuing friendship, for the two of them to realise that they’re not so different from one another – and that when it all comes down to it, sometimes opposites can attract after all.
