:: about the story ::

I didn't originally set out to make Lanterns part of a series. It wasn't until the Sound Of Light EP was released in May 2013 that I realised there was a lot more story to be told than I could realistically fit into the one fic. As I continued to develop the world that Lanterns is set in, it became clear that it was definitely not a standalone story, but instead was one of many.

Similarly, I didn't plan to start writing this story so soon after finishing Lanterns. But after spending the first half of 2021 researching and outlining it, alongside studying for my Master's degree and finishing up work on Lanterns, I soon realised that unless I wanted to lose the momentum I had built up, work on a sequel would need to start sooner rather than later. What I didn't plan on was to start writing the newest instalment of The Sound Of Light less than two weeks after I had finished working on Lanterns – and I definitely didn't plan for it to sit in Scrivener until Camp NaNoWriMo the following April, waiting for the right moment to continue writing. It takes its title from the Ben Folds song of the same name.

Summary: Ruby and Taylor are engaged and getting ready to spend the rest of their lives together. At the same time, Hanson are getting ready to record their next album. Things are just about perfect.

Until the day that Taylor collapses after band practice.

With one life changed forever and countless others put on hold, the band's future is hanging over all of their heads -- as is the question of whether or not Ruby and Taylor will get their happily ever after.
